Welcome to the 2018-19 school year!!!!!!!!!!

    Oh, The Places You'll Go!!!!!!

It is my belief, that with a positive attitude and strong work ethic, success is right around the corner. Through teaching, I have fostered a love for literacy, and it is my goal to model and help guide your child to grow and foster that same love and enthusiasm. Reading every single night for at least 15-20 minutes is crucial to your child's success. Research shows that this helps children build reading comprehension, fluency, and vocabulary. Looking forward to a great school year!

    Helping your child at home:

When your child reads at home, here are some questions/discussion topics you might want to ask and discuss with them :

    • Does this remind you of something? (make a connection)
    • What do you think will happen next? (make a prediction based on what you have read so far and/or the text features)
    • Why did this author write this? (author's purpose)
    • How does this new information connect with what I already know? (questioning)
    • Do this make sense? Do I need to reread? (monitoring)
    • Make a movie in your mind of what is happening. (visualizing)
    • What are the most important (central) ideas? (summarizing)
    • What is the theme (life lesson) that you can take from this story?
    • How is the main character in this story like another character you've read about? (compare and contrast)
    • How is the main character acting as well as reacting to events in the story? What trait might you give them? (characterization)
    • How does the setting affect the plot of the story?
