Dear Parents and Guardians:
Welcome to the Health Office services and information website. Please look through the tabs to the left of your screen. This is where you will find required health forms, notices, and other useful health information.
Attendance
If your child is going to be absent, kindly remember to call the appropriate Health Office listed above. All offices have voice mail so you may leave a message at any time. If you do not call in your child’s absence, the office will call your home, work and/or your cell numbers to determine why your child is not in school.
When is my child sick enough to stay home from school?
This is not always an easy question to answer! We hope that the following tips can help! A child who is sick will not be able to perform well in school and is likely to spread the illness to other children and staff. We suggest making a plan for childcare ahead of time so you will not be caught without a comforting place for your child to stay if he/she is ill.
Children may not return to school if he/she has had:
● Fever in the past 24 hours greater than 100 degrees orally, without the use of fever-reducing medications.
● Vomiting in the past 24 hours.
● Diarrhea in the past 24 hours.
● Strep Throat or Conjunctivitis (pink eye). They must have been taking an antibiotic for at least 24 hours before returning to school, unless a doctor’s note states otherwise.
Return to school
If your child is out for five or more consecutive days for health reasons, we require that a student be readmitted through the health office with a Doctor’s note certifying that the student is cleared to return to school.
Recess (if applicable)
Please remember to dress your children appropriately for recess. We recommend sneakers for the playground - coats, hats, and gloves during the winter season. Unless it's raining, very cold or there is snow on the ground, the children will go out for recess. Please remember to label all coats, sweaters, hats, and gloves with your child’s name.
Change of clothes (AMPS)
Students can require a change of clothes for multiple reasons. Children go down a wet slide, spill their food or have a bathroom accident. We ask you to please send in seasonally appropriate clothes and replace them when needed.
Sincerely,
The Miller Place School Nurses
