Superintendent Search
The Miller Place Union Free School District Board of Education is pleased to share that at our April 29
Board of Education meeting, we formally appointed Dr. Marc Ferris as the District’s next Superintendent
of Schools. Dr. Ferris is joining our Miller Place School District family following a successful tenure as
Superintendent of Schools in Sayville.
As part of a thoughtful leadership transition plan, Dr. Ferris will begin serving as Deputy Superintendent
on August 1, working alongside Superintendent Mr. Seth Lipshie during a one-month transition period.
He will officially assume the role of Superintendent of Schools on September 1 following Mr. Lipshie’s
retirement.
The Board conducted a comprehensive search process and was deeply impressed by Dr. Ferris’
educational leadership experience, student-focused philosophy, commitment to building strong school
communities, and collaborative approach to working with staff. We are confident that he is well prepared
to lead Miller Place into its next chapter.
Dr. Ferris brings more than 20 years of experience in public education and a strong background in
instructional leadership. He earned his doctorate from Hofstra University and also holds two master’s
degrees from New York University.
Dr. Ferris began his career as a social studies teacher before moving into administration at North Shore
Middle School, where he served as both assistant principal and principal. He later served as Assistant
Superintendent for Instruction in the Wantagh School District from 2016 to 2022, overseeing curriculum
and instruction, before becoming Superintendent of the Sayville School District.
Dr Ferris’ depth of experience, student-centered leadership, and dedication to fostering supportive
learning environments align strongly with the values and vision of our District. We are confident he will
continue building upon the strong foundation established in Miller Place while leading our District with
passion, integrity, and purpose.
