Mrs. Shanks

Welcome to my school psychology website!

After graduating from Miller Place High School in 2004, I began studying pschology and sociology at Stony Brook University where I graduated with a Bachelors degree.  I went on to study at Adelphi University, where I completed a three-year master's degree in school psychology.  During that time, I was able to gain much experience from being involved in a variety of programs and internships throughout Suffolk County.  I was lucky enough to secure the school psychology position at Miller Place High School after graduating in 2011.

The reason why I wanted to be a school psychologist is because I wanted to help teenagers get through life when times get tough.  I have worked with students who have a variety of different issues including depression, anxiety, substance abuse, anxiety, oppositional defiant disorder, learning disabilities, and just the every day drama and challenges that teenagers face.  Not only do I counsel, but I spend time working with teachers and other staff members to create a safe and productive learning environment for all.  I also conduct evaluations for special education services.  If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.
