Whenever I have test(s) to send home, I will send an Assessment Folder home with your child. Please look over the test(s) and discuss them with your child. The test(s) can then be kept at home, but please sign the recording sheet inside the folder and send it back the next day.
ELA through Journeys:
The Journeys program encompasses most areas in our ELA block. Each Journeys lesson will take approximately 1-1 ½ weeks. Each lesson has specific sight words, a vocabulary skill, a comprehension skill, a grammar skill, and a specific writing genre to work on.
Independent Reading: Your child should have a book to read in class and at home that is an appropriate level for him or her. Your child should read at least 10 minutes for homework, Monday through Thursday.
Guided Reading: On a weekly basis, students will read with me in a small reading group that is leveled to their abilities. THis will be done during our Daily 5 Centers.
**The Spelling principles will continue to be taught through the Fundations program.
Our math curriculum will be taught through the math modules provided by engageny.org.
We are using the common core aligned social studies program through PNW Boces this year.
Science and Health:
Our science topics are: Energy and Sound, Sun, Moon, and Stars, and Plants and Animals
Our Health lessons with be taught using “The Great Body Shop” colorful pamphlets.
Every week I will send home a Weekly Newsletter. This Newsletter will tell you what we are working on in school and any upcoming events and/or special announcements for our class.
Student of the Week:
Each child in the class will have the opportunity to be the Star Student. He/she will be given a poster to complete at home, and then will have that poster displayed on a bulletin board in the classroom after he/she has shared it with the class. The Star Student may also bring in a show and tell on the Friday of his/her week.
