Course Description:  This course is a continuum of learning the Spanish language and culture.  In adherence to the New York State Standards the following modes of language acquisition and application will be applied: Communication, Culture, Connections, Comparisons and Community.  Emphasis is placed on refinement of listening, speaking, reading and writing skills.  The values and applications inherent in studying a foreign language as well as cultural awareness of the multicultural environment in which we live are promoted.

Content: The purpose of this course is to continue to practice the four interrelated skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing. Students will use the language for active communication and expand their ability to express ideas with fluency and accuracy in both spoken and written language. In addition, they will develop the ability to understand spoken language in various contexts and use thematic vocabulary for reading current and authentic texts.  Students will refine listening, reading, writing and speaking skills through the examination of authentic materials.  Students will develop the ability to analyze, interpret and synthesize printed and audio materials that will be used for class discussions. The culmination of this course ends with a Local Final Exam. This course is a prerequisite to upper level language courses.
