Students! Teachers!  Parents!  Neighbors!

Rachel's Challenge

On September 15, 2005, the Rachel’s Challenge program was presented to the Miller Place community of students, teachers, parents, and neighbors.  During school hours on September 14th and 15,th a modified version of the program was presented to NCRMS and MPHS students.

Rachel Scott was the first student killed at Columbine High School.  She believed in being honest, compassionate, and accepting of others.  Her belief was that treating one person with kindness inspires them to do the same for others. Rachel’s death inspired her father to strive for creating a safer environment in schools everywhere by promoting Rachel’s philosophy of life.  Rachel believed that, “…if one person can go out of their way to show compassion, then it will start a chain reaction of the same.  People never know how far a little kindness can go.

The Miller Place community of students, teachers, parents, and neighbors must work together to make this program work.  Be kind to someone today.

Rachel’s Challenge encourages us to:

bulletEliminate prejudice by looking for the best in others
bulletChoose positive influences and role models in life
bulletKeep a daily journal or diary
bulletLook for the little things that make a big difference
bulletExpress positive affection to family and friends consistently
bulletWrite out goals for the future

Begin every day with an attitude check:   “I can start a chain reaction.”
